New High-Technology Tugboat Arrives at the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas

“UT PATZCUARO” Joins Ultratug Mexico

Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán, December 2, 2025 – On Monday, December 1, the state-of-the-art tugboat UT PATZCUARO arrived at the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas. This modern and highly equipped vessel has joined the Ultratug Mexico fleet and will strengthen towing manoeuvres and maritime operations within the port.

With a length of 24 metres and a Gross Register Tonnage of 328, the UT PATZCUARO tugboat is designed to deliver reliable performance during port towing operations. The vessel is powered by Caterpillar engines, renowned for their reliability, and is equipped with a FiFi 1 firefighting system, enabling it to respond effectively to port emergencies.

With a bollard pull capacity of 75 tonnes, UT PATZCUARO is positioned as the most powerful tugboat operating at the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas.

Designed by the prestigious naval architect Robert Allan and built at Sanmar Shipyards in Altinova, Turkey, the tugboat was developed under high engineering standards. Construction began in January 2025 and was directly supervised by Ultratug’s technical team, ensuring the vessel’s structural integrity and operational quality.

During this month, UT PATZCUARO will formally begin operations at the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas, strengthening manoeuvring services and enhancing the port’s overall operational performance.

The arrival of this vessel reflects the port’s commitment to modernising its maritime infrastructure and to the continuous improvement of efficiency in port services.
